Cybertruck Customers Report Delivery Delays Due to Windshield Wiper Problem

Tesla temporarily paused Cybertruck deliveries over an issue involving the vehicle’s large windshield wiper, according to several posters on the Cybertruck Owner’s Club forum. The electric vehicle maker hasn’t issued a formal statement on the reported issue, and it hasn’t responded to Gizmodo’s request for comment, though that last part isn’t surprising. Tesla hasn’t had a functioning press office for fielding questions from journalists since it was dissolved by CEO Elon Musk back in 2020.

The windshield wiper problem, first reported by Electrek on Saturday, probably won’t be a shock to many who’ve followed the trials and tribulations of the Cybertruck. Owners of the vehicle have reported the wiper—which is just a single rather than the double wiper seen on most cars—can sometimes activate on its own for seemingly no reason and can get stuck in a down position rather than staying up. And it’s not just the Cybertruck. Tesla wipers on other models have historically had problems.

As Electrek points out, no recall notice has been issued for the Cybertruck wipers, but there are plenty of complaints on the Cybertruck Owner’s Club forum.

“My wiper has not worked for a while was told to wait for few weeks for a wiper motor. Option was they keep the truck or I reschedule. Took the truck back. crazy!” one user wrote.

“My wiper never worked. Took 2 weeks to get the part. Apparently the old motors will all fail, the replacement has a new part number,” another user complained.

“Same experience with VIN 9xxx, mine has not worked at all,” another user wrote. “Went back and forth with Tesla for several weeks waiting for them to get the part and now have a service appointment on 24th. They never said specifically, but assuming they are replacing the motor. All I told them was it was not working and they seemed to know what they needed to do, so a recall or more widespread service issue is not surprising.”

There are also several people who say they ordered Cybertrucks but have been notified that their deliveries have been delayed by about a week, without specifying a reason.

“Was supposed to pick mine up on Sunday and I was told it’s late next week now,” one user wrote.

“Mine was scheduled to deliver tomorrow but got a message in the App that delivery is postponed to next week. Didn’t say any reason,” another user wrote.

It should be noted, of course, that some Cybertruck owners really seem to love the wiper. And again, none of this has been confirmed by Tesla yet. But given the company’s adversarial attitude with media outlets, it seems unlikely we’ll hear back. For his part, Musk was making vague promises on X about big news coming soon.

“Working on the Tesla Master Plan 4. It will be epic,” Musk wrote Monday.

And while it’s entirely possible Musk really is working on some bold new strategy document that will push Tesla into exciting new realms, it’s important to remember he makes these kinds of proclamations whenever the EV maker is getting bad press coverage.
